Brucebilt Modifieds and Late Models $2,100 to win at Richmond Raceway’s Butch Shay Memorial June 17

 

Richmond, KY(June 11, 2017) After being off last week, Richmond Raceway track promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz will have the 3/10-mile semi-banked clay oval known as “The Beast of the East” back in action on Saturday June 17 with the 3rd Annual Butch Shay Memorial, featuring Sonic Late Models paying $2,100 to win and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series paying $2,100 to win, along with a full racing program for the AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks and Baker Iron and Metal Stock Four Cylinders.        

Richmond Raceway will present the 3rd Annual Butch Shay Memorial on Saturday June 17 and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will be in action, racing for $2,100 to win, along with the track’s Sonic Late Model division also racing for $2,100 to win.  Also in competition at the 3rd Annual Butch Shay Memorial contest will be the AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win and Baker Iron and Metal Stock Four Cylinder racing for $500 to win.  All divisions will utilize the practice/time trial combo format to determine heat race starting positions.  Richmond Raceway also uses transponder timing/scoring and the rental fee for a transponder is $10.  RACEceivers are also mandatory and must be is use by drivers anytime they are in their cars out on the track.  Also of note, drivers are encouraged to arrive early and need to be at the track no later than 5:30 p.m. if possible.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will sanction the Open Wheel Modified portion of the racing program.  The entry fee for Modified competitors will be $50 (transponder fee is included in entry fee).  The Modified tire rule for the event will be as follows:  Front- Medium, A40S, M-30s, A40, Hard, H40, & M-60 (siping allowed on front due to carry-over from 2016 season); Rear- Hoosier A40S, M-30S, A40, Hard, H40, M-60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard with no grooving allowed.  The only tires that can be siped on the rear is the Hoosier M-60 and American Racer Extra Hard.

Richmond Raceway presents this event for the third time to honor the late Butch Shay, who started his racing career in 1963 and concluded his racing career in 2013, having a career that spanned for 51 racing seasons and saw the likable driver from Louisville, KY race in six different decades and truly see how the sport of dirt track racing has evolved from its humble beginnings to the ultra-modern race cars that compete in modern times.  Mr. Shay was a racer that normally competed at the local and regional level and was always a force to be reckoned with at whatever race track he took his driving talents to for competition and Richmond Raceway was one of his favorite tracks at which he liked to compete.   Mr. Shay was honored by the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2015 as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a lifetime contributor to the sport of dirt track racing and was inducted into the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2016.     -

Activities for the 3rd Annual Butch Shay Memorial event on Saturday June 17 at Richmond Raceway will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., with the general admission area gates set to open at 4:30 p.m.  The drivers meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m., with practice/time trial laps set to get underway at 6:15 p.m., and the first green flag to start the racing action will wave at 7:30 p.m.  All times EDT.  Ticket prices for the Butch Shay Memorial event on Saturday June 17 in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free.  A pit pass will be $35 for adults, with children ages 6 to 12 $15, while children ages 5 and under are free.
