Richmond Raceway’s 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial $2,100 to win Late Models and Modifieds July 16

 

Richmond, KY(July 10, 2016) Richmond Raceway co-promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz will present a very special event at the 3/10 mile semi-banked red clay oval known as “The Beast of the East” on Saturday July 16 as the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial will take place, paying $2,100 to win for Sonic Late Models and $2,100 to win for Phantom Racing Gear Modifieds, plus a full racing program for the AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks, Pro-Tow Towing Stock Four Cylinders, and Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclones.

Also of interest, the driver that scores the victory in the Sonic Late Model portion of the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial will be guaranteed a starting position in the 29th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial event on Saturday August 20 that will pay $10,059 to win. 

Richmond Raceway will present the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial on Saturday July 16 as the Sonic Late Models will be in competition in a 30 lap, $2,100 to win main event.  The Phantom Racing Gear Modifieds will also be highlighted on this program and will also be in competition in a 30 lap, $2,100 to win main event.  Also on the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial on Saturday July 16 will be the AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win, Pro-Tow Towing Stock Four Cylinders racing for $500 to win, and Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $100 to win.  The Late Model and Modified divisions will have a separate practice session and them come back and time trial, while all other divisions will utilize the practice/time trials combo format to determine heat race starting positions.  Transponders are used for timing/scoring purposes (can be rented at the track) and RACEceivers are also mandatory in all divisions.  All competitors are urged to be at the track and signed-in by 5:30 p.m. as that is when driver registration closes. 

Activities for the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial at Richmond Raceway on Saturday July 16 will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m. and the general admission area open at 4:30 p.m.  Driver registration will close at 5:30 p.m. and the drivers meeting will begin at 5:45 p.m., with practice set to begin at 6:15 p.m.  Racing is set to take the take the green flag at 7:30 p.m.  All times listed are EDT.  Ticket prices for the 2nd Annual Butch Shay Memorial at Richmond Raceway on Saturday July 16 in the general admission area will be $18 for adults, with children ages 12 and under admitted FREE.  A pit pass will be $35, children ages 6 to 12 will be $15, and children ages 5 and under are FREE.

Richmond Raceway presents this event for the second time to honor the late Butch Shay, who started his racing career in 1963 and concluded his racing career in 2013, having a career that spanned for 51 racing seasons and saw the likable driver from Louisville, KY race in six different decades and truly see how the sport of dirt track racing has evolved from its humble beginnings to the ultra-modern race cars that compete in modern times.  Mr. Shay was a racer that normally competed at the local and regional level and was always a force to be reckoned with at whatever race track he took his driving talents to for competition and Richmond Raceway was one of his favorite tracks at which he liked to compete.   Mr. Shay was honored by the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2015 as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a lifetime contributor to the sport of dirt track racing and will be inducted into the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame Class of 2016 in November of this year.
