Richmond, KY(January 28, 2016) Richmond Raceway track promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz would like to announce the following updates for the tire rules for the Modified and KDRA Super Stock divisions at the 3/10 red clay oval better known as “The Beast of the East” for the 2016 racing season.  These tire rules will become effective immediately beginning with the first event of the 2016 race season.
After talks and discussions with representatives from both Hoosier Tire and American Racer Tire and with UMP changing their tire rules for 2016, track officials at Richmond Raceway wanted to be proactive in conforming to the new tire rule and the availability of tires for this upcoming season, the following will be the tire rules for the Modified division at Richmond Raceway for the 2016 season:   Hoosier- UMP approved tires:   A40S, A40, H40; non UMP approved tires:   Medium and Hard (M100 and M200 are NOT legal); American Racer- Medium and Hard.  No chemical altering of tires allowed.  All tire compounds must punch 48 when cold.  For the Modified division, tires cannot be grooved, but they can be siped.   Compound numbers must be clearly visible on the sides of the tires and no altering or buffering of compound numbers are allowed.  Any tire that looks like it has been altered will not be allowed in competition.
For the KDRA Super Stock division, the class will follow suit with the Modified division tire rules, since many of the drivers in this division do purchase used tires from racers in the Modified division.  The tire rules for the KDRA Super Stock division for 2016 will be as follows:    Hoosier- UMP approved tires:   A40S, A40, H40; non UMP approved tires:   Medium and Hard (M100 and M200 are NOT legal); American Racer- Medium and Hard.  No chemical altering of tires allowed.  All tire compounds must punch 48 when cold.  The Super Stock division will also follow the no grooving of tires rule, but siping will be allowed, however, a grace period will be allowed for drivers that have grooved tires to be able to use them as a front tire selection only until June 1, as after June 1, no grooved tires will be allowed on any corner of the car in the division.  Compound numbers must be clearly visible on the sides of the tires and no altering or buffering of compound numbers are allowed.  Any tire that looks like it has been altered will not be allowed in competition.
Richmond Raceway will begin its 2016 race season with an open practice set for Saturday March 26 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.  The first official green flag for the 2016 season will fly on Saturday April 2, with a full racing program for Late Models, Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, Four Cylinders, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones.
