Richmond Raceway Postpones 2016 Season Opener to Saturday April 9

Richmond, KY(April 2, 2016) Richmond Raceway co-promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz are very excited to get the 2016 race season underway, however, Mother Nature has thrown the promotional trio at the 3/10 mile semi-banked clay oval known as “The Beast of the East” a curveball with the unseasonable cool temperature forecasted for later tonight and a red-flag wind advisory that has been issued by the National Weather Service for the Bluegrass region of Kentucky later on today.

The track’s 50th Annual Season Opener will now take place on Saturday April 9 and will feature Late Models racing for $1,500 to win, Phantom Racing Gear Modifieds racing for $1,000 to win, AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win, Stock Four Cylinders racing for $500 to win, and Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclones racing for $100 to win.

“We really don’t want to postpone our season opener, but we have to think about the comfort of our race fans, drivers, and race teams on an unseasonable cool and windy day such as the one being predicted”, stated track co-promoter Larry Yantz.  “With the winds forecasted to gust to 40 miles per hour at times today and the cooler temperatures, we feel it is in the best interest of everyone to postpone our season opener to April 9”, added Yantz.  “We put out yesterday that we had full intentions of racing and we did, but these winds will not make for a comfortable situation for anyone.  We apologize for any inconvenience to everyone and appreciate your support of Richmond Raceway”, concluded Yantz.
