Barrett, Watson, Johnson, Hounshell, Jr., Harrison, and Crusenberry 2015 Richmond Raceway Track Champions

 

Richmond, KY(November 7, 2015) Richmond Raceway co-promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz would honor their top drivers from the 2015 racing campaign on Saturday afternoon with a cookout and awards ceremony at the 3/10 mile semi-banked clay oval known as “The Beast of the East”.  Over the course of the 2015 racing season, 311 different drivers earned track championship points at the Madison County oval, while the track averaged 83 cars per event for the season.   

Jason Barrett of Waco, KY was honored as the 2015 Barry Turner of Century 21 Advantage Realty Super Late Model track champion.  Barrett’s 2015 title run saw the second-generation racer earn six top five feature event finishes on his way to his fourth track championship in the division, having previously the track title in the division in 2009, 2010, and 2013.  Victor Lee of Danville, KY would finish as the division runner-up and would score four feature event wins along the way.  Tommy Bailey of Corbin, KY would place third in final points in the class, garnering one feature event win.  Former track champion Aaron Hatton of Mount Sterling, KY would finish fourth in points, while Johnny Wheeler of Campbellsville, KY would complete the top five in final Super Late Model track points, winning two feature events during the season.  The remainder of the top ten in final Super Late Model track points would be Michael Chilton of Salvisa, KY (one feature win), Derek Fisher of Olympia, KY, Chris Ruble of Waco, KY, Dennis Barton of Corbin, KY, and Steve Stollings of Hazard, KY.  A total of 79 different drivers earned track points, with the division averaging 15 entries per night.  The division totaled eight different feature winners for the season and included Tommy Bailey, Michael Chilton, Greg Johnson, Victor Lee, Mike Marlar, Justin Rattliff, Josh Rice, and Johnny Wheeler.

Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, KY was honored as the 2015 Modified track champion.  Another second generation driver, Watson’s track championship effort saw him tally seven top five feature event finishes and score six feature event wins over the course of the season to claim his first track title at Richmond Raceway.  Defending track champion Jimmy Robinson of Richmond, KY would be the championship runner-up in the class and claim one feature win during the season.  Veteran Jimmy Crabtree of Irvine, KY would finish third in points and score one feature event win, with fellow veteran racer Dennis Roberson of Paris, KY finishing fourth in division points.  Russ Gabbert of Berea, KY and Jared Reams of Mount Vernon, KY would finish tied for the fifth position in final Modified track points.  Completing the top ten in final Modified track points would be Wade Rookard of East Bernstadt, KY, Blake Brown of Corbin, KY, Stevie Tipton of Irvine, KY, and Kevin Harkins of Hazard, KY.  A total of 68 different drivers earned track points, with the division averaging 22 entries per night.  There were seven different feature winners for the year in the class and included Blake Brown, Delane Browning, Jimmy Crabtree, Victor Lee, Cameron Marlar, Jimmy Robinson, and Jeff Watson.

Chris Johnson of Winchester, KY was honored as the 2015 REVELution Race Cars Pro Late Model track champion.  Johnson would claim his first track title in the division by totaling seven top five feature event finishes that included three second place efforts and four third place finishes.  Todd Coffman of Parksville, KY would win eight feature events on his way to track championship runner-up honors.  Chad Spradlin of Whitley City, KY would finish third in points, while fellow Whitley City, KY native Wesley Ball would finish fourth in final division points.  David Freeman of Lexington, KY would finish fifth in track points for the class.  Rounding out the top ten in Pro Late Model track points would be Zane Powell of Junction City, KY, Chris Fair of Liberty, KY, Elliott Despain of Buffalo, KY (one feature win), Jake Henry of Junction City, KY, and Clayton Spradlin of Bethelridge, KY.  A total of 38 different drivers earned track points, with the division averaging 12 entries per event.  There were three different feature event winners in class and included Adam Bowman, Todd Coffman, and Elliott Despain. 

Glen Hounshell, Jr. of Mount Vernon, KY was honored as the 2015 KDRA Super Stock track champion.  Hounshell, Jr. would win his second consecutive track title at Richmond Raceway as the second generation racer would tally six top five feature event finishes and score two feature event wins on his way to the track championship.  Logan Preston of Berea, KY would finish as the division track championship runner-up, with Darrell Cain of Richmond, KY finishing third in track points.  Jeremy Howard of Berea, KY would score two feature wins on his way to a fourth place finish in points, while Allen Hackworth, Jr. of Waco, KY would round out the top five in final division points.  Bill Robinson of Waco, KY would head up the second five in final class points, followed by Jeremie Bretz of Maysville, KY (two feature wins), Eddie Stewart of Manchester, KY (two feature wins), Rudi Strebeck of Berea, KY, and Johnny King of Lancaster, KY.  A total of 62 different drivers earned track points in the division, with the class averaging 21 entries per night.  A total of six different drivers scored feature wins and included Jamey Adams, Jeremie Bretz, Russ Gabbert, Glen Hounshell, Jr., Jeremy Howard, and Eddie Stewart.

Stacy Harrison of Keavy, KY was honored as the 2015 Four Cylinder track champion.  The track title was of historic proportions for Richmond Raceway as Harrison became the first female driver in track history to claim a track championship.  Harrison totaled six top five feature finishes and claimed two feature event wins on her way to the title.  Dave McCarty of Owingsville, KY would finish as the division championship runner-up, winning five feature events.  Jamison Gipson of Lancaster, KY would score the third position in points, while Keith Gipson of Keene, KY would claim the fourth spot in points.  Dylan Stevens of Morehead, KY would finish fifth in points and tally one feature event win.  The rest of the top ten in final class points would be Bill Taulbee of Irvine, KY, Brian Ferguson of Ezel, KY (one feature win), Ronnie Romines of Gray, KY, Dalton Cox of Versailles, KY, and Freddy Breeden of Somerset, KY.  A total of 55 different drivers earned track points as the class averaged 15 entries per event.  There were six different feature winners in the division, including Logan Burke, Brian Ferguson, Stacy Harrison, Greg Hensley, Dave McCarty, and Dylan Stevens.

Scott Crusenberry of Williamsburg, KY was honored as the 2015 Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclone track champion.  Crusenberry would win the track title for the division in its first year of competition at the track by scoring eight top five feature event finishes and grabbing three feature wins along the way.  Jason Bell of London, KY would claim track championship runner-up, with Josh Dickerson of Richmond, KY winning two feature events on the way to a third place points finish.  Cole Bland of Campbellsville, KY would finish fourth in class points and win three feature events, while Shalie Bell of London, KY rounded out the top five in final points.  The remainder of the point earners in the class included Tim Crusenberry of Williamsburg, Tyler Smith of Bimble, KY, Dillon Rutherford, and Aalyah Tye.  A total of nine different drivers earned points in the class, averaging four entries per event.  Three different drivers earned feature wins and they were Cole Bland, Scott Crusenberry, and Josh Dickerson. 

Three drivers earned a season pit pass for the 2016 racing season from a drawing of drivers based on attendance at the track this season and those drivers were Chad Spradlin, Jamison Gipson, and Keith Gipson.  Jimmy Crabtree earned a $25 gift certificate from RockAuto.com and Scott Crusenberry earned a free chassis from Warlock Race Cars for his Mini-Cup/Cyclone track title.  Track co-promoter Chad Yantz addressed those in attendance at the conclusion of the awards ceremony and thanked all the racers for their gracious support of the track during the 2015 season and announced the 2016 schedule is currently being assembled.  Yantz did announce one date that had been nailed down for 2016 and that was the 29th Annual Paul “Butterball” Wooldridge Memorial for Super Late Models will be on August 20 and will again be sanctioned by the Southern Nationals Bonus Series and will pay at least $10,000 to win.
