Lee, Marlar, Coffman, Gabbert, Ferguson, and Crusenberry “Dawn of a New Era” Opening Night Winners at Richmond Raceway

 

Richmond, KY (April 11, 2015) Richmond Raceway kicked off “The Dawn of a New Era” on Saturday evening as the Yantz family officially opened the 3/10 mile Madison County clay oval for action and opening night feature event winners included Victor Lee of Danville, KY in Barry Turner of Century 21 Advantage Realty Super Late Models, Cameron Marlar of Winfield, TN in Modifieds, Todd Coffman of Parksville, KY in REVELution Race Cars Pro Late Models, Russ Gabbert of Berea, KY in KDRA Super Stocks, Brian Ferguson of Ezel, KY in Four Cylinders, and Scott Crusenberry of Williamsburg, KY in Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclones.

Aaron Hatton would take the lead at the start of the Barry Turner of Century 21 Advantage Realty Super Late Model main event, but third place starting Victor Lee would challenge immediately for the race lead and on lap 2 would take the top spot. Lee would pull away to a sizable advantage during the midpoint and later stages of the event to pick up the $1,200 payday in the Kevin Ison owned Kevin Ison Motorsports/Xtreme Style Signs and Graphics/JAACO Mining Equipment/Campbell Heating and Air/Superior Drywall/Hoosier Tire South/Quality Auto/Taylor Plumbing/Studio Ink Tattoos/ Wild Cody’s Gun and Pawn/Carrier’s Garage/Henson’s Auto Detail/Absolute Pest Control sponsored #4 Revelution Race Car sporting a Day’s Racing Engine. Hatton would hold off the charges of Michael Chilton to claim runner-up honors, while Jason Barrett would sneak past Derek Fisher with two laps remaining to finish fourth, with Fisher fifth. The remainder of the running order would Steve Stollings, Dennis Barton, and Mick Sansom. Nine entries would see Hatton as time qualifier in practice/time trials qualifying at 14.204 seconds and also win the heat.

The Modified feature would see David Adams lead the way in the early going until Cameron Marlar would speed past him for the lead on lap 7 and survive a pair of late race cautions to secure the $800 victory in his Marlar Auto Mart/Chilton Lawn Maintenance/CarQuest sponsored #357 Lightning Chassis with a Roe Race Engine. Keith Smith would take runner-up honors, while Dennis Roberson would finish third. Adams would settle for the fourth position, with Jim Robinson completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Jeff Watson, Russ Gabbert, Delane Browning, Mikah Reams, and Wade Rookard. Twenty-two entries would see Smith get quick time in practice/time trials at 15.735 seconds, while heat race wins went to Marlar, Adams, and Roberson.

The REVELution Race Cars Pro Late Model main event would see Todd Coffman take the lead at the start and never look back to score the division victory worth $600 aboard the Sharon Coffman owned Self Service Storage/Auto Connection/Coffman Photography/Todd’s Body Shop/Heritage Closing/The Muffler Shop/Harrod Farms sponsored #35 Rocket Chassis, GM604 crate powered machine. Chris Johnson would outduel Zane Powell for second, while Elliott Despain nipped Chris Fair at the checkered flag for fifth. The remainder of the finishing order would be Wesley Ball, Matthew Smith, Brian Walters, and David Freeman. Ten entries would see Johnson set fast time in practice/time trials at 15.351 seconds, while Johnson and Coffman were heat winners.

Russ Gabbert and Bartley Grant would duel for the lead for the first three laps of the KDRA Super Stock feature contest before Gabbert would take the lead for good on lap 4 and drive away to a $500 payday in the seat of the Dan Ramey owned Ramey Racing/Ramey Race Engines sponsored #4 Chevy Monte Carlo entry. Grant would finish second, with Jamey Adams outgunning Dean Boyd to take third, while John Cole completed the top five. Rounding out the top ten were Logan Preston, Derek Bottoms, Trae Soper, Chad Barrett, and Glen Branham. Twenty-three entries would see Robby Perkins as top qualifier in practice/time trials at 16.681 seconds, with Gabbert, Grant, and Adams winning heat race events.

The Four Cylinder feature event would see Brian Ferguson take the lead in the early stages of the race and drive on to a $300 victory behind the wheel of his Grassy Auto Sales sponsored #18 Ford Mustang. Tyler Hayes would start 11th and finish second, while Dylan Stevens, Dalton Cox, and Brian Thornsburg completed the top five. The rest of the top ten finishers were Wendall Miller, Clint Cox, Dave McCarty, Stacy Harrison, and Jon Garland. Fourteen entries would see McCarty and Ferguson claim heat wins.

Scott Crusenberry would nip Jason Bell by .024 seconds at the finish to pick up the $100 victory in the Warlock Race Cars Mini-Cup/Cyclone division feature contest aboard his Don Frankin Family of Dealerships/Tri County Wood sponsored #8 entry. Bell would take second, with Tim Crusenberry claiming third. Four entries would also see Scott Crusenberry win the heat.
